2042 Cafe on Newtown's energetic King Street is full of atmosphere and character. 2042 is one of my favourite places to eat, with a menu that is completely ethical and consciously sourced. They're open breakfast and lunch everyday and dinner on Friday and Saturday, making it really convenient to support free-range sourcing.
The menu
With a menu catering to every known dietary regime, you're certain to be torn between a few choices. My go to is the pork belly, simply because it's almost impossible to get free-range in restaurants. For a lighter choice, the quinioa and kale salad with chicken is also one of my favourites. During breakfast you can take a 'pick and mix' approach with all types of items to choose from - my breakfast was free-range ham, tomatoes, avocado and toast of gluten free seed bread.
Locals were dropping in for the coffee, which speaks volumes in a place like Newtown where the caffeine competition is fierce. As a non-coffee drinker, I love the chai at 2042 - it's an amazing blend, though they don't offer almond milk, probably because of the environmental challenges with almond farming, but taking soy here is fine by me.
Deserts also cater to gluten and dairy free diets.
There is a large selection of wines, beers and other alcoholic drinks on offer to compliment the meals.

What's ethical
At 2042 the chef sources all free-range, organic, cruelty free and sustainable produce for their menu.
What's different about 2042 Cafe
There's no pretences, the vibe is very comfortable and has a provincial feel. If you're lucky you can grab a lounge to relax on whilst enjoying your meal. Otherwise, take a seat and take in the energy of King Street as you treat yourself to a serve of soul food.
